Biography: Andy Palacio

Andy Vivian Palacio was a Belizean singer and musician. Born December 2, 1960 in Barranco, a coastal town in Belize, died on January 19, 2008. Palacio achieved fame in the late 80's, when he became the most famous musician in Belize and a major proponent of Garifuna culture. The orchestra of Palacio, called the Garifuna Collective, invented "punta rock", music inspired by traditional dance of the Garifunas. Palacio sang in Garifuna, arawakano, Spanish and English. Was designated Belize's cultural ambassador, Palacio was also deputy administrator of the National Institute of Culture and History of his country.

Belize has a great climate

The local climate is tropical and generally hot and humid. Rainy season lasts from May to November during which natural hazards such as hurricanes and floods are common. Approximately 60% of its territory is tropical rainforest, same as with population growth is declining year by year. The northern half of Belize consists of lowlands with wetlands. The southern half is dominated by mountain ranges such the Maya, which reaches a height of 1122 meters at the Victoria Peak. Near the coast of Belize are 550 square kms of coral reefs and cays.

The Fantastic Blue Hole

Close to 100 kilometers (62.14 miles) away from Belize trough the atoll of Lighthouse Reef, exists a big hole in circle shape known as “The Blue Hole”. It´s diameter reaches the 305 meters (990.81 feet) and it´s about 123 meters (403.543 feet) of profundity. The hole was the entry of caves in the ice age and when the ice melts, the water cover it, and in this way the blue hole takes it´s form.

The Blue Hole is visited for many diving experts, who has the courage to explore it, if you are one of these courage divers and explore the magnificent blue hole you will find a variety of sea life like, angel fishes, corals, sponges and a litter shark patrol sometimes its shore.
